MARKING A MILESTONE

On Sunday, April 25, 2004 at 12:00 noon a SPECIAL ceremony was held to mark the 60th anniversary of the first commissioning of USS CROAKER (SS/SSK-246). This event was well attended considering the rain and was held dockside to the USS CROAKER in the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park. This ceremony recognized USS CROAKER and her contribution to our nation, was hosted by the United States Submarine Veterans, Inc. (USSVI) Buffalo Base.
USS CROAKER (SS-246) launched from Electric Boat in Groton, CT on December 19, 1943 and was officially commissioned as an active U.S. Navy vessel on April 21, 1944. Her active duty career spanned 25 years and won her 3 battle stars and a Naval Unit Commendation for her World War II service. It is nothing short of remarkable that a vessel of CROAKER'S class, having served on the front lines throughout such dangerous and uncertain times, still remains with us six decades later. Please join us to celebrate this milestone.

All are welcome to attend.

Buffalo & Erie County Naval & Military Park (B&ECN&MP) now has TWO SUBMARINES!!! - The USS BOSTON (SSN-703) joins the USS CROAKER (SS/SSK-246) as the second submarine display at the B&ECN&MP. The USS BOSTON was a Los Angeles Class, Fast-Attack nuclear submarine decommissioned in 1999. Buffalo, NY, erie County and the B&ECN&SP are proud to have the privilege to have been chosen as the site for this display of the sail, rudder and cleats from this vessel. This is the first Los Angeles Class submarine to be displayed anywhere.

USS BOSTON (SSN-703) Display Update - The USS BOSTON Shipmates held their reunion in Buffalo, New York this past July 10th through 13th 2003 and dedicated the partially completed sail display. The sail, which is now completely assembled needs only cover plates, some final welding and some cosmetic painting. The rudder, which still needs to have the foundation poured, will be placed at approximately the same distance from where is was from the sail at the south end of the Naval Park.
